Here are some great Halloween attractions in Philadelphia this year:
1. Terror Behind the Walls
Eastern State Penitentiary, a closed down prison near the art museum, puts in a haunted maze every year for Philadelphia’s residents. There are six themed sections of the maze, with “Infirmary” being a new addition for 2018. A fun part of this attraction is that you can make it scarier if you want: you have the option of wearing a glow-stick necklace, which signals to the actors in the attraction that you’re open to being grabbed, led down secret passageways, and get extra scared. Tickets here.
2. Halloween Movie Screenings
All through October, popular, fan-favorite Halloween movies can be watched at The Piazza for free, all you need is a beach chair, blanket, and some snacks! Some excited ones coming up are Hocus Pocus on October 28 at 7pm, and Halloween on Halloween at 8pm. Check out the schedule here.
3. Pumpkin Fest at Shady Brook Farms
The farm has pumpkin orchards, corn mazes, and hayrides - everything a beautiful fall day could possibly require. For the bolder few, PumpkinFest after dark and nighttime corn mazes offer a more Halloween-y experience. They also have a FrightFest on select evenings.
4. Fright Factory
This haunted attraction can be found in an abandoned factory building in South Philadelphia. This year they have three attractions: Industrial Nightmare, Silent Screams Asylum, and Fright Factory Unearthed (like UnEarthed!). Halloween and the night before, you can get scared for only $20 if you buy your tickets in advance!
5. Halloween in the Market
Reading Terminal Market will be hosting a Halloween celebration from 9:30am - 1pm on October 28. You can dress up and trick or treat from certain merchants for free, to get you in practice for Halloween night. There’s also pumpkin carving demos and caramel apple making! More info here.
